Simply Dylan is the brainchild of John O’Connell. No frills, no gimmicks, no pretence – this is
‘a tribute to Bob Dylan, not a Bob Dylan tribute’.
His band’s precise playing and high-energy renditions of Dylan’s work from the 1970s
onwards have gathered momentum and generated incredible interest from modest origins as
a project recognising Dylan’s 70th Birthday in 2011.
Since then Simply Dylan have gone from strength to strength – selling out the Cavern Club
six times, receiving fantastic reviews for their international tours and opening up the Isle of
Wight Festival on the Big Top Stage.
This is the full band theatre show featuring a super-talented multi-instrumentalist 6-piece
band that includes violin, sax, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, acoustic and electric guitars,
guitars plus soul-stirring vocal harmonies.
Tickets are currently flying out for this short tour which takes in some of the country’s most
prestigious venues including Gateshead Glasshouse, Salford Lowry and Liverpool Royal
Philharmonic. We feel lucky and privileged to have secured a date for this one!
Last word goes to Alan Bleasdale, playwright of Boys from the Blackstuff fame.
‘Together, Simply Dylan marry the extraordinary range and beauty of Dylan’s lyrics with the
joyous and exuberant, celebratory sound I have always secretly wanted to hear whenever,
in recent decades, I have listened to Bob Dylan.
No one can ever go back in time to recall the wonder and near disbelief of discovering Dylan
for the first time, but I can make no finer tribute to Simply Dylan than to reveal that they
allowed this old man to go back and listen again with love to his first and only hero’
